Primary Purpose of Position:
As an essential member of the clinical team, this role has a primary responsibility for the Infection Prevention and Control Program to control the spread of infections and/or outbreaks across the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
The following statements reflect the general responsibilities and standards associated with the performance of this job. This description is not intended and shall not be interpreted as a comprehensive list of all tasks, duties, responsibilities, and skills required.

  • Establishes, implements and administers departmental goals, objectives, policies, and procedures; conducts an ongoing review of Parker policies, procedures, and guidelines to identify infection control discrepancies and implements revisions as necessary. Coordinate with each home in developing and implementing appropriate infection control policies and procedures, and training staff of those P&Ps.
  • Conducts rounds, discussing and monitoring infection control practices with staff; collects infection data from departments, maintaining records for each case;
  • Coordinates and reviews the investigation of incidents of infection submitted by each home and reports such incidents to the Chief Nursing Officer; ensure availability of supplies required for infection control.
  • Partners with the Medical Director(s), Director of Nursing(s) and Administrator(s) of each location to develop, implement and evaluate annual infection prevention goals and action plan.
  • Oversees the operations of the infection prevention, epidemiology, industrial hygiene, and relevant safety programs of Parker Homes.
  • Participates in the national collaborative and external reporting to CDC NHSN system, and other post-acute-care specific quality organizations.
  • Has the authority and responsibility for ensuring appropriate intervention and education occurs with staff, volunteers and medical staff when healthcare infection trends, outbreaks or noncompliance with infection control/OSHA are identified.
  • Develops and enforces effectual policies and procedures for the department and homes that ensure compliance with OSHA, CDC, CMS, NJDOH and any other county, state, and federal regulatory agencies.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Position requires computer and systems competency in the following areas: enters data, retrieves data, assembles and organizes data, uses and analyzes data. Integrates diverse sources of data. Familiar with CMS conditions of participation, medical/legal concepts in regard to healthcare data.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs).
  • Ability to work well with physicians, employees, residents/participants/elders, and others.
  • Ensures the privacy and confidentiality of patient and center information by abiding by and enforcing the HIPAA privacy & security policies, which define each classification of employee and authorized access to resident/participant/elder information.
  • Able to plan and conduct training seminars and exercises with a working knowledge of nursing practice and theory.
  • Possesses excellent written, interpersonal, time management and presentation skills with flexibility to meet a wide range of service needs.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Current RN license with BSN required, OR Masters in Public Health (MPH) or related field is preferred.
  • Association for Practitioners in Infection Control (APIC) training course or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years clinical experience in a hospital or long-term care setting or disease surveillance experience in a public health setting.
  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC); preferred.
  • Nationally certified in Infection Prevention and Control by NADONA (IP-BC Credential); preferred or completion of certification within 6 months of employment.
  • Proficient in computer skills (Microsoft Office), research, and basic statistical knowledge is preferred.
  • Previous experience in teaching, curriculum development, and instruction design is also desired.
